Are you dealing with a low battery issue on your ADT command panel regularly? If so, you might have to replace the panel battery. In this article, we are going to discuss how to change the battery on your ADT system.
Replacing the ADT panel battery is not a difficult task. The only pertinent item is to activate the Test mode before replacing the battery. First, activate the Test mode. Then remove the screws of the back cover of the panel. Finally, pull out the old battery and replace it with a new one.
Why Should I Activate Test Mode?
Before you learn how to activate test mode, you need to know why. So, let’s get started.
Test mode avoids any false alarms from going off. Especially during the battery replacement process, sometimes, a false alarm can occur without even you knowing it. Therefore, we need to block any warning signal reaching the ADT. If a false alarm occurs, your ADT security system might alert the police too. To avoid such a situation, you need to activate the test mode. (1)
Ways to Initiate Test Mode in ADT Security Systems?
You can activate the test mode using three different methods. Here, we are going to discuss all three methods. Choose the most appropriate technique for you.
Method 1 – Go to the Official ADT Website
This is the first and the easiest method to activate the test mode. You can effortlessly turn on the TEST mode through your MyADT account. (2)
Step 1: First, go to the https://adt.com/custormer/login page. There you can find various login options. For this process, select MyADT login. Then log in to your account.
Step 2: After that, click the My Alarm option. Then go to System Management. Finally, select the Test System option. Now your ADT security system is in test mode.
Method 2 – Contact ADT
The second method is to contact ADT support. To contact ADT, call the 1-800-ADT-ASAP line. Inform ADT that you plan to replace the panel battery, and they will activate the test mode.
Always remember, after the replacement is over, you need to contact them again to turn off the test mode. There are plenty of ADT security specialists available in ADT support. So, you can get this done pretty quickly.
Method 3 – ADT App
In this method, you can use the ADT app.
Follow these steps.
Step 1: Launch the myADT app. Then click on the System tab.
Step 2: Now select the System Test. After that, you should provide the time that system needs to be in test mode. Finally, click on the Start Test Mode.
Note: You can complete the above process by Control app or Pulse app.
How to Change the Battery in your ADT system?
After activating the test mode, replacing the panel battery will take about 2-3 minutes.
Step 1: First, cut off the power to the ADT panel. Then loosen the screw that is located top/bottom of the panel.
Step 2: Now separate the front cover from the panel. Disconnect the battery wires from the panel.
Step 3: Then loosen the screw that is holding the battery. Pull out the old battery and replace it with a new battery.
Step 4: Tighten the battery holder properly and attach the wires to the new battery. Finally, tighten the front cover to the panel.
